2025 European Classic Championships – Sonita Muluh, +84KG

The 2025 EPU European Classic Championships took place on March 23 in Malaga, Spain. One of the most notable performances was Women’s Superheavyweight lifter Sonita Muluh of Belgium, who achieved an International Powerlifting Federation (IPF) squat world record of 318 kilograms en route to an IPF world record total of 735.5 kilograms.

Muluh’s triumph on the platform was never in doubt as her world record total was 97.5 kilograms more than runner-up Aquinn Onuoha of Great Britain’s 638 kilogram total. Bronze medalist Amelie Mierger did not exceed the 600-kilogram mark, scoring 582.5 kilograms.

Outfitted entirely in orange, from weightlifting shoes to knee sleeves to singlet to wrist wraps to lifting belt to hair, Muluh traveled to Spain to shatter world records in style. Upon walking the barbell out from the squat rack, she visibly braced before beginning her descent.

After fulfilling sufficient depth, she charged through the ascent, grinding slightly midway through before standing up to full lockout and a sign of relief. The lift never appeared in doubt.
