Sara Davies reveals how she dropped three dress sizes and admits she will never be happy with her body as she speaks out about her weight loss

Sara Davies has revealed how she impressively dropped three dress sizes and why she will never be happy with her body.

The Dragons Den star, 40, explained how there was no ‘magic’ way of dropping the pounds and instead had to change her lifestyle as she starred in a striking photoshoot with PRIMA magazine.

Sara revealed she completely cut out sugar from her diet last year and did not just avoid things like cake and chocolate, but also removed high sugar drinks including fruit juice and alcohol.

She said: ‘I spent the end of last year cutting out sugar. And when I say cutting out sugar, I don’t just mean I stopped eating chocolate and cake. I stopped drinking fruit juice or eating fruit and cut down my alcohol intake.

‘A lot of people say to me, “What’s your trick? How are you doing it?” And I think they just want some kind of magic bullet, but it really was just lifestyle changes.’

Sara also revealed to the publication she will ‘never be happy’ with her figure but she finds ways to feel less ‘conscious’ and ‘dresses for the woman she wants to be’.

She explained: ‘If you say to me, “Do you like your body or not?” I think, “Well, no, I have these massive, big stretch marks.” You’re never happy with what you have, but I make it so that I’m happy when I look in the mirror. I just wear a Wonderbra or two bras. If I’m conscious of my tummy, I wear a pair of Spanx.’

Sara looked incredible in a white dazzling off the shoulder gown while holding a giant red satin bow as she posed for the December issue of the magazine.

For a second look for the cover shoot, the BBC star wowed in a white tasselled maxi dress which she teamed with towering heels and a coordinated fur shawl.

It comes after Sara admitted she’s ‘had a tough couple of years’ after it was revealed her company is £1million in the red.

Sara owns Crafter’s Companion and in notes to the accounts for the year to March 2022, the directors describe the period as ‘challenging.’

Revealing how she has had to work ‘harder than ever before’, Sara explained how her business has been affected by the cost of living crisis and Brexit.

Speaking to The Mirrorshe said: ‘I’m just going to be really honest, it has been a rough couple of years.

She told PRIMA: ‘A lot of people say to me, ‘What’s your trick? How are you doing it?’ And I think they just want some kind of magic bullet, but it really was just lifestyle changes’

Earlier this year, Sara looked incredible as she showed off her figure in a zebra print bikini after dropping from a size 16 to a size 12

‘I kind of don’t want to shy away from that because I always feel, especially with my role on Dragons’ Den, I’ve got that responsibility of being a bit of a role model.’

Sara continued: ‘I’ve had to work harder than I ever have in my life. We’ve been navigating all the other difficulties – the cost of living crisis, the raw materials cost increases, the energy crisis, war in, plus the effects of Brexit.’

In October 2023, the company’s auditors said: ‘The group and the company has suffered from reduced sales orders post year end and is in breach of banking covenants.

‘As stated … these events or conditions indicate that material uncertainty exists that may cast doubt on the group and company’s ability to continue as a going concern.’

A loan was taken out to prop up Crafter’s Companion in July 2023. Accounts show a loss for the year of £1.27 million, compared with the previous year’s £231,000 profit.

Sara joined Dragons’ Den in 2019, when she was only 35, becoming the youngest dragon.

Crafter’s Companion was founded when she was a university student and spotted a gap in the market for an envelope-making tool which could be used by card makers.

She designed the gadget and had a local joiner make them from MDF. The company now employs more than 190 staff.

Sara has won more than 25 business awards and in 2016 was recognised for services to the economy with an MBE.

The December 2024 issue of Prima is now on sale.
