Karlos Nasar Sets Snatch and Total World Records at 2024 IWF World Championships

2024 IWF World Championships Results — Karlos Nasar, 89KG

The 2024 International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) World Championships took place in Manama, Bahrain, from Dec. 6-15, 2024. It was the first major international contest held since the confirmation of new weight categories in June 2025.

Background

That meant for the remaining seven months, world records in the existing weight categories would still be up for grabs if the world’s best with a barbell could exceed the previous heights reached.

Karlos Nasar’s World Record

That was no issue for Bulgaria’s Karlos Nasar, who went on an absolute tear in the Men’s 89KG class, scoring a new world record snatch of 183 kilograms en route to a new world record total of 405 kilograms.

2024 IWF World Championships Results — Karlos Nasar, 89KG

  • Snatch: 183 kilograms (403.5 pounds)
  • Clean & Jerk: 222 kilograms (489.4 pounds)
  • Total: 405 kilograms (892.9 pounds)

Nasar weighed in officially at 88.74 kilograms. His 405-kilogram total was a masterpiece on the lifting platform, not only exceeding the 400-kilogram milestone but leaving his competition in the dust.

Competition Results

Kwang Ryol Ro of North Korea won silver with a 380-kilogram total. Bronze medalist Marin Roby of Moldova achieved a 379-kilogram total. On the world championships stage, Nasar was 25 kilograms ahead of his nearest competition and might not have been his top lifts.

Bundesliga Results

Nasar’s performance was tremendous yet expected. While preparing for the contest, he eclipsed all three world records by wider margins at Bundesliga. While unclear if he was at the proper 89-kilogram bodyweight, he did score the following results, which would have shattered all three world records had they been performed in international competition:

  • Snatch: 185 kilograms (407.8 pounds)
  • Clean & Jerk: 230 kilograms (507 pounds)
  • Total: 415 kilograms (914.9 pounds)

Conclusion

The 2024 IWF World Championships conclude on Dec. 15, 2024. Many triumphs have occurred, including a gold medal for USA’s Olivia Reeves in the Women’s 71KG class.
