Easy Raspberry Compote

What is Compote?

Compote (the French word for stewed fruit) refers to fruit that’s been cooked until it’s warm and tender. It originated in medieval Europe and was traditionally made by cooking down fruit with water, sweetener, and spices. Our inspired, naturally sweetened version is made with raspberries and is about as simple as it gets! It results in a similarly thick stewed fruit mixture in which the raspberry flavor shines.

How to Make Raspberry Compote

This EASY raspberry compote requires just 2 ingredients: raspberries (fresh or frozen) and maple syrup. There’s no need to add water to this compote since the maple syrup provides just enough liquid to get things bubbling.

Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup fresh or frozen raspberries
  • 2 tablespoons maple syrup

Instructions:

  1. Rinse the raspberries and remove any stems or leaves.
  2. In a medium-sized saucepan, combine the raspberries and maple syrup.
  3. Heat the mixture over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the mixture comes to a simmer.
  4. Reduce heat to low and let it cook for about 10-15 minutes, or until the mixture has thickened and reduced slightly.
  5. Remove from heat and let it cool to room temperature.

Tips and Variations

  • Use fresh raspberries for the best flavor, but frozen raspberries will also work.
  • Adjust the amount of maple syrup to your taste. Some people like it sweeter, while others prefer it less sweet.
  • Try adding a splash of lemon juice or a pinch of salt to enhance the flavor.
  • Use this compote as a topping for yogurt, oatmeal, ice cream, or pancakes.

Conclusion

Raspberry compote is a versatile and easy-to-make topping that can elevate many dishes. With just 2 ingredients and 15 minutes of cooking time, you can create a delicious and natural sweetener that’s perfect for any occasion. Try it out and enjoy!
