Barbra Streisand left fans reeling on Monday after publicly grilling Melissa McCarthy about her weight reduction with a ‘rude remark’.

The Broadway legend, 82, couldn’t help but comment on an image of the actress, 53, posing with pal Adam Shankman, 59, at Sunday’s CTG’s The Gala 2024 on the Ahmanson Theatre.

The comedian – whose weight has fluctuated through the years – showcased her newly slimmed down figure in a trendy mint dress and blazer, prompting Barbra to post: ‘Give him my regards did you are taking Ozempic?’

The EGOT-winning entertainer was quickly on the receiving end of dozens of responses calling out the character of her inquiry, and while she didn’t address the backlash, Barbra quietly deleted her comment.

Yet with a popularity of speaking her mind, this is not the one time Barbra has unwittingly caused offence…

Oprah

In 2003, Barbra appeared on The Oprah Winfrey Show wearing a white turtleneck and carrying her white dog Sammie across the studio.

After a musical performance during which Barbara used a white microphone, Oprah called her out for even matching the microphone to her outfit and dog.

She said: ‘I need to only say this… I own this studio, I’ve been here I do not understand how a few years. I’ve never seen a white mic.’

Barbra replied: ‘It’s actually off-white, to match my off-white sweater. I like simplicity, and monochromatic frames.’

‘So you had the mic sprayed?’ Oprah asked again in an encounter that Comedian Kathy Griffin said was eating at Oprah for weeks in her book Official Book Club Selection.

Donald Trump

In 2018, Barbra claimed that Donald Trump was making her ‘gain weight’ as she resorted to comfort eating with a view to cope with the present state of politics.

She then added to Australia’s Stellar magazine that the ‘lying’ President was making her feel ‘sort of depressed’ as she stayed up until the wee hours after eating chocolate and ice-cream.

‘Trump lied from the start, and I just honour the reality – in my work, in my life, I really like the reality. I feel it is so powerful,’ Barbra stated.

‘The truth, to me, is the essence of living in a democracy and I suppose what offends me a lot is Trump seems to care so little or no about it, because he continues to lie day after day and make up things, you realize?’

She went on: ‘I let you know, when the news gets really bad, prefer it did the opposite night listening to (the President) I needed to have two coffee ice-cream cones… I needed to have two. I used to be eager about three.

‘Sometimes after I do this and eat chocolate before I’m going to bed, I am unable to sleep until five, six within the morning. I get little or no sleep.’

Larry Kramer

Barbra and Larry were embroiled in a saga over the tv adaptation of his play The Normal Heart for years.

Barbra optioned the rights to The Normal Heart back in 1986 but apparently couldn’t raise the cash to get the project made.

A leaked email from Larry to Barbra back in 2012 highlighted his frustration, as he told her she ‘didn’t have quite the identical burning passion to make it as you usually claim.’

Yet Barbra defended herself, insisting: ‘In the press, Larry kept speaking out against me.

‘But I feel it’s unfair to maintain blaming me for the movie not getting made.

‘I worked on it for 25 years, without pay. Larry had the rights for the last 15 years and he couldn’t get it made, either. Those are the facts.’

Bradley Cooper

When Bradley’s 2018 remake of her 1976 film A Star Is Born was released, Barbra couldn’t help but show her disappointment within the finished result.

She confessed she was initially on board before she heard about Bradley’s involvement.

Barbra explained: ‘At first, after I heard it was going to be done again, it was imagined to be Will Smith and Beyoncé, and I assumed, that is interesting.

‘Really make it different again, different sort of music, integrated actors, I assumed that was an incredible idea.

So, I used to be surprised after I saw how alike it was to the version that I did in 1976…

‘I do not care a lot about success as I do originality.’
