Actress Tammin Sursok Reveals She Suffered “Microdoses of Sexual Abuse”

Tammin Sursok Reveals She Suffered ‘Small’ Sexual Abuse in the Entertainment Industry

Former Home and Away Star Speaks Out on Her Experiences

Tammin Sursok, a former Australian actress, has revealed that she suffered "small" sexual abuse during her time in the entertainment industry. In a recent interview with the podcast "Mental As Anyone," Sursok shared her experiences and spoke about the normalization of predatory behavior in the industry.

Microdoses of Sexual Abuse

Sursok, 41, explained that she initially thought she was "lucky" to have never experienced sexual abuse, but upon reflection, she realized that there were many instances of "small" abuse that she had overlooked. She recalled an instance where an older man would say inappropriate things to her when she was 15 or 16 years old. She also remembered a time when a man showed her a nude photo of himself while she was getting her makeup done.

Normalization of Predatory Behavior

Sursok believes that the normalization of predatory behavior in the industry made it difficult for her to recognize the abuse at the time. "When the Me Too movement came out, I was like, ‘I am so lucky, sexual abuse never happened to me,’" she said. "But then when I look at these microdoses of sexual abuse, I’m like, ‘oh my goodness, there were so many things that were said or like, I was overly sexualised’."

Book Announcement

Sursok announced that she will be releasing her first memoir in 2025, which will detail her experiences in the industry. She expressed her gratitude to Pantera Press for joining forces with her to publish the book. "This is honestly a dream come true, as I’ve been writing essays and snippets about my life for almost ten years now," she said.

Conclusion

Tammin Sursok’s brave decision to speak out about her experiences serves as a reminder of the importance of acknowledging and addressing the pervasive issue of sexual abuse in the entertainment industry. Her story highlights the need for greater awareness and understanding of the ways in which abuse can manifest, even in "small" or "microdoses" of inappropriate behavior.
